Our Doctor is the Westporter of the Week by Timothy
One edition of The Patch’s section named “Westporter of the Week” featured Dr. Timothy Ehrlich, talking about his personal and professional life for an online publication which targets local communities and people. This is a very professional publication which wants to cover events and persons in the cities and towns nearby and has its headquarters in New York City. It is run by professional editors, writers, photographers and so on.
Firstly, Dr. Ehrlich talked about his personal life, how he moved from New Orleans 8 years ago with his wife and two daughters, Zoe and Lola, and now he has a son too, his name is Nate. The doctor’s favorite reading is anything written by Frederick Reiken, who is an old friend from New Jersey and wrote the Odd Sea, the Lost Legends of New Jersey and Day for Night, which is the most recent. His daughters love reading everything on Harry Potter and they do it at Burying Hill in Westport.
Dr. Timothy Ehrlich has performed over 1,800 surgeries, more than any weight loss surgeon in the state of Connecticut. This has made him a leader who is now building the most comprehensive bariatric surgery program in his opinion. This will be done in collaboration with Griffin Hospital in Derby, a hospital known for its excellence and great results on patients, thanks to the army of physiologists, trainers, counselors, nutritionists.
This doctor has been recently involved in a study which tried to see if lap band surgery could be performed on low bmi patients. Lap band surgery was allowed only to patients with a BMI higher than 40 and health conditions associated with obesity but low bmi lap band surgery turned out to be safe too, with positive results when the strict rules were followed.
He had a chance to give lectures nationally and recently helped the Library in Westport by offering them the Westport Reads 2011 selection.

The Three Weissmanns of Westport $5.99 When Joseph Weissmann divorced his wife, he was seventy eight years old and she was seventy-five . . . He said the words “Irreconcilable differences,” and saw real confusion in his wife’s eyes. “Irreconcilable differences?” she said. “Of course there are irreconcilable differences. What on earth does that have to do with divorce?” Thus begins The Three Weissmanns of Westport, a sparkling contemporary adaptation of Sense and Sensibility from the always winning Cathleen Schine. In Schine’s story, sisters Miranda, an impulsive but successful literary agent, and Annie, a pragmatic library director, quite unexpectedly find themselves the middle-aged products of a broken home. Dumped by her husband of nearly fifty years and then exiled from their elegant New York apartment by his mistress, Betty is forced to move to a small, run-down Westport, Connecticut, beach cottage. Joining her are Miranda and Annie, who dutifully comes along to keep an eye on her capricious mother and sister. As the sisters mingle with the suburban aristocracy, love starts to blossom for both of them, and they find themselves struggling with the dueling demands of reason and romance. |

Moon Tide $3.24 Lush and fiercely beautiful, Moon Tide follows the lives of three women in a small fishing town on the Massachusetts coast, from 1913 to the Great New England Hurricane of 1938.In evocative prose, Moon Tide traces the ebbs and flows of the human heart — the violence of memory and the redemptive power of longing — matched against the unpredictable tempers of the natural world.Eve takes refuge in silence and art after witnessing the death of her mother. She can sense how the dead nip at the heels of the living, and her ethereal beauty inspires a quiet passion in Jake, the son of a local stonemason. Eve’s wealthy, eccentric grandmother, Elizabeth, stays on in the town year round, amassing a great library for the cold New England winters. And then there is Maggie, the exotic stranger, with long bones, dark hands, and a peculiar clair-voyance. Maggie lives in the precarious space between the locals and the rich — a balanced life that is compromised by Wes, a ruthless rum-smuggler.Like the growing weight of a storm, the lives in Westport Point build in emotional momentum, even as the great hurricane approaches. |

Moon Tide: A Novel $0.01 A lush and haunting first novel, Moon Tide follows the lives of three women in a small fishing town on the Massachusetts coast, from 1913 to the Great New England Hurricane of 1938.Through sensual and interwoven stories, Moon Tide explores the secret workings of the heart—the violence of desire and memory, the redemptive power of longing—matched against society’s rules of class and the unpredictable tempers of the natural world. At the center of the novel is Eve, who takes refuge in silence and art after the death of her mother. Eve can sense how the past nips at the heels of the living, and her ethereal beauty inspires a quiet passion in Jake, the son of a local stonemason. For Elizabeth, Eve’s wealthy, eccentric grandmother, one summer at Westport Point extends into a lifetime. She stays on in the town year-round, building a great library in her house for the cold New England winters, haunted by the Ireland of her youth and by one man’s doomed obsession with nature. And then there is Maggie, the exotic stranger with a peculiar clairvoyance. Maggie lives in the precarious space between the locals and the rich—a balance that is ultimately compromised by Wes, a ruthless rum-smuggler, whose desire for her triggers small cruelties and then a staggering act of violence. With lyrical prose, wisdom, and insight, Dawn Clifton Tripp maps the shifting tensions in a small town on the verge of change. Like the growing weight of a storm, the lives in Westport Point build in emotional momentum even as the Great Hur-ricane approaches, and the landscape of the earth comes to reflect the geography of the mind. A novel of love and loss, survival and revelation, Moon Tide isan extraordinary debut. |

Someone Else’s Yesterday: The Confederate General and Connecticut Yankee: A Past Life Revealed $13.43 Someone Else’s Yesterday is an amazing journey through the eyes of two people: one a Georgian, the other a Connecticut Yankee. Similarities between the two go far beyond coincidence. They think alike, look alike, and even share facial scars. Their lives are so intertwined that they appear to be one. Half of this equation, Jeffrey J. Keene, is a present-day Assistant Fire Chief in affluent Westport, Connecticut. The other half, John B. Gordon, Confederate General, Army of Northern Virginia, died January 9, 1904. These elements came together at a Halloween party in 1992, leading to a 10-year odyssey including the battlefields of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Georgia as well as the library of the University of Georgia and the Library of Congress. Gathering information from official records, wartime reports and even love letters, Jeff Keene uncovered many parallels between his own life and that of General Gordon. Even the trip to the emergency room on his thirtieth birthday with facial pain had mimicked the wound General Gordon received at the battle of Antietam when he was thirty years of age.Jeff Keene shares his insights into the workings of reincarnation along with his personal encounter with the nightmare of September 11th. Experience a city in mourning during the aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center, from a touching eulogy delivered by Mayor Giuliani to the smoldering ruins at Ground Zero.Share the struggles of the past and the hopes for tomorrow as Keene weaves a tapestry of mystery and history, of love and the horrors of war. Jeffrey Keene has no choice but to believe in reincarnation–he lived this remarkable story and every word is true. |
